ROD CHASE — Rod Chase is known to his collectors for producing photo-realism at its finest. This talented artist takes hundreds of photographs of each of his subjects, combining them with historical photographs to produce a timeless quality in each of his works. Chase spends hundreds of hours on each painting as he strives to present a fresh and unique view to familiar subjects.
Known for his breathtaking scenes depicting our country's national historica treasures, Chase felt honored as well as professionally challenged to paint our nation's capital. Over the course of several trips to Washington, D.C., he spent weeks visiting the district's famous landmarks, including The White House, the Capitol, and the Supreme Court building. Rising very early each day, Chase photographed the dramatic light of sunrise, and late in the day he revisited several sites to capture the soft, moody glow of twilight. Between sessions, he researched old photos at the National Archives and the Library of Congress

Chase will continue to create dramatic, awe-inspiring scenes of Washington and other national landmarks for his collectors by combining antique and modern photography with just the right touch of artistic license. This native Canadian lives with his wife in her home state of Texas. Together they have five children. In 1999, Rod became a U.S. citizen.

Title: Via dell’ Amore
Medium: Giclee on Canvas
Size: 20 x 33, 24 x 40, & 30 x 50
More Information: In Italian, a trail is called a Sentiero. The one that connects the five villages of the Cinque Terre is the famous Sentiero no. 2 or Sentiero Azzuro. The five towns are unique and afford fabulous views from land and sea. From the sea, the towns resemble a sparkling necklace decorating the interesting Italian coast.
Since the thirties, the portion of the trail connecting Riomaggiore and Manarola (the southern- most section of the Sentiero Azzuro) has been called the Via del’Amore or The Lover’s Road. It certainly is particularly beautiful with romantic views.
The 11 kilometer long trail takes about 5 hours to walk if not much time is spent enjoying the scenery. There is a total elevation difference of 500 meters between the highest and lowest points of the trail, and many parts are stony paths with steep stairs. But the Via dell-Amore section takes only about 20 minutes to traverse, leaving lots of time to enjoy its beauty and drama and perhaps to enjoy a bit of romance.
Title: Hillside in Chianti
Medium: Giclee on Canvas
Size: 18 x 24, 24 x 32, 36 x 48
More Information: Rod Chase acquired a fondness for Italy during a visit he made several years ago to sketch and paint the country. With the beautiful detail and color that are hallmarks of a Chase image, the artist has painted a lovely villa in a serene setting near the town of Castellina in the Chianti region. This area in Italy is a vital part of the history of Tuscany. The hilly landscape of geometric patterns of vineyards stretching out in different directions creates changing effects of light and color, which so inspire the artist. In this magnificent scenery, the vineyards share the land with olive groves, cypress, castles, cottages, craft studios, ancient parishes, villas, and gardens. Come with Rod Chase to the "Hills of Chianti."
Title: The Mists of Morning
Medium: Giclee on Canvas
Size: 30 x 20, 36 x 24, 45 x 30
More Information: While in Venice last year, Chase spent many hours photographing the Grand Canal and also the smaller, inner canals. Much of his photography was at twilight or dusk, but on several mornings he and his wife rose early to enjoy a “different Venice”: few tourists and no gondoliers or boat traffic. The city was totally still and quiet except for the sounds of water lapping against the timeworn bricks or the hulls of tethered boats. The mists of morning made the narrow canals all but vanish. As dramatic and awe-inspiring as Venice was in the evening, it was even more remarkable in the morning: a magical moment when the city seemed invisible except for the soft colors of the ancient buildings reflecting in the water. It was a world of delicate hues and magnificent textures – so real up close, then silently disappearing like a dream in the silvery mists of morning.
